Safety Audits

What a WHS audit covers

A WHS audit tells you where your safety system does not match what you are legally required to have, and what to fix first. You get a written report with findings ranked by risk, not a checklist with ticks in it.

Documentation and system review

Your safety management system, policies, procedures and records reviewed against the WHS Act and Regulations as they apply in South Australia.

On-site inspection

A walk-through of your workplace to compare documented process against what is actually happening, which is usually where the real gaps sit.

Risk assessment and hazard registers

Review of your hazard identification, risk assessments and control measures, including whether controls follow the hierarchy of control rather than defaulting to PPE.

Consultation and
training records

Evidence that workers have been consulted and trained, which is the part most often missing when a regulator asks.

Psychosocial hazards: the duty most businesses have missed

Managing psychosocial hazards is now an explicit WHS duty in nearly every Australian jurisdiction, and it sits alongside physical safety rather than under wellbeing. That means identifying and controlling risks such as excessive workload, low job control, poor support, bullying, harassment and exposure to traumatic material, and being able to show what you did about them.

Most safety systems written before this change do not address it at all. If your risk register has nothing psychosocial in it, that is the gap. We assess it as part of a WHS audit and give you the controls and records to close it.

FAQ

Common questions about WHS consultants in Adelaide

How much does a WHS Audit cost in Adelaide?

A standalone WHS audit is $795 excluding GST, and a combined HR and WHS audit is $995. That covers documentation review, an on-site inspection and a written report with findings ranked by risk.

What are psychosocial hazards and do they apply to my business?

Psychosocial hazards are workplace factors that can cause psychological harm, including excessive workload, low job control, poor support, bullying and harassment. The duty to manage them applies to all businesses, not just large ones, and most safety systems written before the change do not cover it.

Do I need a WHS consultant to win tenders?

Most prequalification and tender processes ask for evidence of a documented safety system, current SWMS and a record of consultation and training. A WHS audit produces exactly that evidence set, which is why several clients start with one when a tender deadline is driving the work.

What is the difference between a WHS audit and ISO 45001?

A WHS audit checks your system against your legal obligations. ISO 45001 is a certifiable international standard with additional structural requirements. An audit is the sensible first step, and it tells you how far you are from 45001 if certification is the goal.
